Exhibition "Sword for Victory"

Exhibitions

The Lazdijai Regional Museum is displaying the mobile exhibition of the Vytautas the Great War Museum “For Swords to Victory”. The exhibition will be on display until July 31.

“King [Jogaila] and Vytautas! The Master and Marshal [of the Teutonic Order] send you these swords as aid and invite you to battle, asking about the meeting place, giving you the priority to choose it, and to inform them of your choice. And do not want to hide in the thickets of that forest, nor delay the beginning of the battle, because in no way will you be able to avoid the battle.” These fateful words were conveyed to the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vytautas and the King of Poland Jogaila by the messengers of the Teutonic Order – the heralds – handing them two swords and urging them to join the battle, which became the beginning of the end of the Order itself. From skirmishes in Prussian lands to fierce battles in the Nemunas Valley, the Order’s 200-year aggression against Lithuania finally ended in 1410. On July 15, 1815, in the decisive battle between Tannenberg and Ludwigsdorf, known to us as the Battle of Grunwald, the Lithuanian and Polish armies achieved a difficult and costly victory.
