Šventežeris - a town in the territory of Lazdijai district municipality, 8 km east of Lazdijai. Lake Šventežeris is accessible from the north. There is the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (built in 1882), a post office, a school, a local history museum, and a library (founded in 1945).
In 1511, the area of present-day Šventežeris was donated by Sigismund the Elder to J. Radziwill, who founded the Seiriyai manor farm here, later named Šventežeris. The Radziwills ruled Šventežeris until 1783. An Evangelical Reformed church was established in 1598 (in 1663 it passed to the Catholics, a new one was built in 1746, and burned down in 1863), and a school operated near it for some time in the 17th century. In 1645, the Šventežeris parish, manor, and town were mentioned.
The town suffered during the Northern War of 1655–60. At the end of the 18th century, Šventežeris began to decline. An elementary school was established in 1880. In 1941–49, 63 Šventežeris residents were deported. In 1945–46, partisans from the Seinās and Šarūnas detachments of the Dainava district operated in the area. During the Soviet occupation, Šventežeris was the center of the area and the central settlement of the collective farm.
