Presentation of the Tomas Lagūnavicius exhibition "Image reproduction. What is the price?"

Delivery

April 8 In the public library of the municipality of Lazdijai, in the Conference Hall, the presentation of the exhibition "Image reproduction. What is the price?" by Tomas Lagūnavičius, an interdisciplinary art representative.

"The exhibition is about the changed trends in the contemporary art market. That's why I chose a provocative title, - explains the author. - I have completed Master's studies in Practical Philosophy at VMU. One of my areas of interest is art philosophy and social criticism. Interdisciplinary art creator Tomas Lagūnavičius raises questions that are currently becoming essential in the field of art:
"Artificial intelligence creates overproduction of images, excess supply in the art market, where the image, artistic aesthetics become irrelevant, the price of the work becomes the most important object. Therefore, post-post cynical art rushes to the first positions. It is an art that not only deconstructs the influence of postmodernism on the art world, but also reveals the main characteristics of contemporary art. The first feature is the irrelevance of the image. We're not even talking about the artwork here - whether it's beautiful or ugly, the most important thing is how much that art costs or how much it attracts project funds. Post-post cynical art brings this to the outside and its main object is not the content, but the dimensions of the picture, what material it is made of, copyright, etc. The price of a piece of art has absolutely nothing to do with what the painting is. It all depends on the circumstances, on the place where the art object is displayed, on the curator who curates the exhibition, and other factors."

Tomas Lagūnavičius has so far organized close to 40 personal exhibitions, staged more than 50 performances, participated in as many as 56 international biennales-exhibitions, such as the XIII Florence Biennale in Italy (2021), the Earth Art Exhibition "Balance" in the Vilnius University Botanical Garden (2021). The artist regularly exhibits paintings in various exhibitions in different countries: Tower Bridge, Boomer Gallery (London) (2023), São Paulo Artly Mix Gallery (2023), Artio Gallery (Toronto, Canada) (2023), Collect Art" (CoA) gallery in Tbilisi, Georgia (2023) and others.
