Mound of Mėčiūnai

Mounds

The mound is located on a large hill on the western shore of Lake Ančia. The site is quadrangular, elongated in the north-south direction, 25x16 m in size, 1 m higher at the southern end. On the western slope, 2.5-3 m below the site, there is a 40 m wide natural terrace. The slopes are steep, 15-25 m high. The mound is overgrown with pines. In 2001, Eugenijus Ivanauskas explored mound area of 8 m² and discovered a fireplace and the cultural layer of the former Stone Age settlement with flint artefacts on the site of the mound. The mound dates back to the first millennium.
