Kučiūnai - a village in the territory of Lazdijai district municipality, 10 km south of Lazdijai, west of Lake Galstas, 2.5 km from the Polish border. The Alna River flows through the village. There is a St. Casimir Church (construction began in 1938, built and consecrated in 1996).
Kučiūnai was first mentioned in historical sources in 1685. The parish of Kučiūnai was established in 1907. An elementary school was established in 1918, later closed. An elementary school operated in 1930–45, a seven-year school in 1945–99, and a high school in 1999–2004.
During the Soviet occupation, Kučiūnai was the center of the district, and from 1950 to 1995 it was the central settlement of the collective farm. In the post-war years, partisans from the Dainava district and Šarūnas detachment operated in the district. A library was established in 1950, and a cultural center in 1959.
