The Lazdijai district is crossed by one of the most impressive sections of the Camino Lituano – a path that offers the most beautiful views of Dzūkija. The route leads past the legendary churches of the Lazdijai region, centuries-old villages, through forests, meadows and quiet coastal paths.
This year, on May 9-10, pilgrims will once again walk this path. Everyone is invited to the already traditional hike "LITHUANIA IS WALKING" and the spiritual and cultural celebration - the pilgrim festival "Light the Camino" . This is not just a hike, but a celebration for those who are looking for meaning, want to be with themselves, and at the same time - immerse themselves in communion with others.
On the first day, May 9, you are invited to hike independently from Miroslovo to Meteliai – this is a time to listen to the silence and prepare for the great journey of communion. And on May 10, travelers will gather for the main hike from Meteliai to Šventežeris. The trip will take you through the most visited places in the Meteliai region – the observation tower, the visitor center, sacred places, and cultural stops.
This hike is special because it combines physical walking, cultural exploration, and an inner, spiritual experience. Along the way, participants will experience not only beautiful natural scenery, but also lively encounters with the people of the Lazdijai region: folklore, verses by local poets, and sacred music in churches. This is a path that invites you to stop, listen, and feel.
In the evening, upon reaching Šventežeris, the journey will be filled with even more meaning with Holy Mass, a sacred music concert and a cozy evening by the lake. On the way home, we will admire the artistic light installation at the Šventežeris Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. While traveling the Camino Lituano section in the Lazdijai region, many participants testify: “As we walk, it’s as if something in me falls silent, and something new begins to speak.” This is not a simple event. It is an experience that lasts.
