The homestead of the artist Antanas Žmuidzinavičius

This place is the birthplace of the artist and cultural figure Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1876-1966). The homestead itself, which consisted of a residential house, barn, stable, and barn, was demolished in 1938. The buildings were wooden and covered with straw. Antanas Žmuidzinavičius is one of the most famous Lithuanian cultural and public figures of the 19th-20th centuries. From 1899 he studied painting in Warsaw, in 1905-1906 in private academies in Paris. In 1908 he improved his skills in Munich, in 1912 in Hamburg. In 1926-1940 he taught drawing at the Kaunas Art School. In total, he painted about 2,000 paintings. He was one of the organizers of the first Lithuanian art exhibition in 1907. In 1917-1918 he participated in choosing the colors of the national flag. In 1929-1934 he was the chairman of the board of the Riflemen's Union Center. In 1941-1951 he taught at the Kaunas Institute of Applied Arts. He collected folk art collections and documentary material about Lithuanian art. On the basis of his devils' collection, the Museum of A. Žmuidzinavičius' Works and Collections was established in Kaunas in 1965. In 1961 he wrote a book of memoirs "Palette and Life". He was buried in Kaunas - Petrašiūnai Cemetery.
