Lake Šlavantas

Nature

Šlavantas Lake is of glacial origin - narrow, long, with high and hilly shores. This lake, with small islands, is located in the Šlavantas Landscape Reserve.

Šlavantas meanders through the Lazdijai region for as much as five kilometers in length, and its width reaches only 0.58 km. Did you know that the name of the lake is derived from the word šlouti (to sweep, to sweep)?

The nearby Šlavantai hillfort dates back to the Stone Age, and during the interwar period, young people celebrated May Day here!
