It's official - funding has been received for the Smart Village Strategy "Development of Social and Economic Opportunities in Meteliai". In Meteliai, the former school building, a "ghost" that is currently in a state of emergency, will be transformed beyond recognition, renovated and adapted for people to visit.

An abandoned building in Meteliai will be renovated and transformed into a modern recreation center with rooms, a creative hall and a well-maintained environment: parking lots, gazebos, smart benches, a camper area and public amenities. There will be a mobile outdoor screen, a self-service store-info center, bicycle and watercraft rental. The community will organize education, hikes and creative activities.

The facility, which belongs to the Meteliai parish of the Vilkaviškis diocese, has been transferred to the Lazdijai Tourism Information Center under a use agreement. Parish priest Jonas Baliūnas is happy that the Meteliai settlement will be renewed and will delight everyone who comes here with changes.

"We have been waiting for these changes for many years. Finally, we can say that the work will begin and the old building will not only change beyond recognition, but will also become a place where people will find activities, activities and peaceful relaxation," said Eglė Kubilienė, Head of the Investment and Project Management Department.
The project is implemented by the Dzūkija Rural Development Partners Association (Dzūkija LAG) together with the Lazdijai District Municipality, Lazdijai Tourism Information Centre, MB Mobili Medija and the Meteliai Community. The project value is almost 900 thousand euros, and the Smart Village Strategy has allocated support of almost 500 thousand euros. All works are planned to be completed in 2028.
