Meteliai Regional Park invites you to celebrate the Day of the Restoration of the Lithuanian State with a night hike "On the History Trails of Statiškės Forest". During the hike, we will remember the partisan movement that took place in Statiškės Forest and the 1863 uprising, the blood and sweat-soaked path of the Lithuanian nation towards freedom. On February 16, let us look at Lithuanianness as a dream from which our state grew. Once upon a time, Lithuania was an idea that became a reality only because people believed in it. This dream was also lived by the artist Antanas Žmuidzinavičius, who hails from the Seiryai region, and whose 150th anniversary we celebrate this year. This personality not only contributed to the creation of the Lithuanian flag, but was also a nurturer of state symbols and a disseminator of Lithuanian identity in the world. The vision of Lithuanianness also enchanted “Villa Lituania” in Rome, which became our embassy. It was a place where the Lithuanian dream was alive even abroad. On February 16, we invite you to celebrate the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania together in Lazdijai.

There are many wonderful, creative people in the Lazdijai district who love their country and cherish Lithuanian traditions, so the celebration of February 16 is important throughout the district.

As soon as the solemn moments of February 16 subside, the Lazdijai region is flooded with the bustle of Mardi Gras. Laughter sounds from under the masks, fun music is played, hearty pancakes are tasted, and Morė burning in the flames of the fire invites you to drive away winter and welcome spring. Mardi Gras is a time when you want to be, hear, taste and feel, travel slowly, together with the community.

Throughout February, the Lazdijai region invites you to come and experience history, traditions and true Dzūki hospitality. For more information about all events in February, please visit https://www.lazdijai-turizmas.lt/renginiai/
