Protected pond turtles are returning to their native ponds in Dzūkija!
The Directorate of Dzūkija-Suvalkija Protected Areas, together with the Lithuanian Zoo, invites you to turtle returns - unique events where you can get acquainted with one of the rarest species in Lithuania!
After spending the winter safely in the care of Lithuanian Zoo specialists and getting stronger, the young pond turtles are returning to their natural habitats in Dzūkija.
Where and when do we meet?
June 13th 12:00 noon – Meteliai Regional Park Visitor Center
June 13th 1:00 p.m. – Veisiejai Regional Park Visitor Center
During the event you will find:
getting to know pond turtles
stories about their lifestyle, threats and protection
answers to questions from experts
An hour after the start of the event, the turtles will be released into their selected habitats (for safety reasons, without the presence of spectators).
The pond turtle is one of the rarest and most endangered reptile species in Lithuania, listed in the Lithuanian Red Book. We invite you to learn about and protect our natural treasures together!
