The Kapčiamiestis Emilija Pliaterytė Museum invites you to a cozy, hand-warming joint exhibition "Hand Threads", which brings together two heritage custodians - weaver Laima Griškevičienė and spinner Agnė Miknevičiūtė. This is not only an exhibition, but also a story about time, patience and living traditions, woven and spun into each thread.
Laima is a fourth-generation weaver whose work harmoniously blends tradition and modernity. She weaves details of Dzūki folk costumes – aprons, skirts, towels, bedspreads, floor runners – and at the same time creates modern textile items: handbags, backpacks, scarves or even subtle dress accents. Her work is a living bridge between old crafts and modern design. Laima is a member of the Dzūkija branch of the Lithuanian Folk Artists Union, and in 2023 she was granted the status of an artist.
Agnė is a doctor whose daily life is complemented not only by caring for people, but also by a love for animals and creativity. Cynology is her passion: she raises and trains dogs, prepares them for shows and even professionally shears certain breeds. However, an equally important part of her world is handicrafts. She creates decorations, jewelry, and toys from natural materials, and wool spinning occupies a special place. Agnė spins by hand, dyes wool with vegetable dyes - from avocados to milkweed, giving the yarn natural, vibrant shades. Since 2023, her yarns have been marked with the National Heritage Label.
The exhibition "Hand Threads" is a meeting of two different, but meaningfully intertwined creative paths, in which each thread tells its own story.
You can visit until May 4th.
