Exhibition "Devil's Pranks"

Exhibitions
A special exhibition "Devil's Pranks" is open in the reading room of the Lazdijai Motiejus Gustaitis Gymnasium, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Antanas Žmuidzinavičius. The title of the exhibition reminds us of the witty, sometimes cunning, and sometimes instructive stories of devils, often found in Lithuanian fairy tales and legends.
The exhibition features works by students of the Lazdijai Art School and Seiriyai Department. The students were trained by teachers Rita Vaickelionienė, Vilma Jankauskienė and Kristina Čiurlionienė.
"Devil's Pranks" is a cheerful and creative exhibition of drawings and sculptures, which reveals the character of the devil depicted in Lithuanian folklore and art. The works are made using traditional painting, calligraphy, graving, and mixed media techniques.
The young artists linked the exhibition of drawings and sculptures "Devil's Pranks" with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Antanas Žmuidzinavičius in a very meaningful way, because the theme of the devil was directly related to the life and activities of the famous Lithuanian artist, collector, and public figure.
Antanas Žmuidzinavičius was not only a painter, but also an avid collector of devil figurines, masks, and various souvenirs. His collection became the basis for the Devils Museum in Kaunas.
Antanas Žmuidzinavičius was a colorful, sociable personality. He actively fostered Lithuanian culture, was interested in folklore, traditions, and folk art.
Students of the Lazdijai Art School and the Seiriyai Department, with the help of art teachers and well acquainted with the traditions started by the artist Antanas Žmuidzinavičius, creatively tried to interpret traditional characters and look at them in a modern way. And the students succeeded! They depicted the devil not only as frightening, but also as comical, inventive, cunning, funny, and kind-hearted. In the drawings and sculptures, one can see the devil's jokes, pranks, fun adventures, encounters with people, animals, or even mythological creatures.
The exhibition "Devil's Pranks" is suitable for visitors of all ages - it awakens the imagination, invites you to smile and discover the charm of Lithuanian mythology.
Come, discover, be surprised! The exhibition is waiting for you until April 20.
