Along the way, Gerda meets a group of friendly helpers: a cunning witch, a goose named Hank, a talking owl, a boy named Sampo and his deer, and a handsome horse named Gustav. They help the girl not to lose hope, even when it fades.
The cause of all the trouble is the evil Snow Queen and her apprentice Louis, who are keeping Kay in an ice palace and trying to freeze his heart. Will Gerda be able to overcome the queen's traps and return home with Kay in time for Christmas?
